Okay everyone, I got a new rifle and thought I would give you my thoughts. It is a Seekins Havak Element- 7mm PRC with a 22 inch barrel and the Mountain Shadow carbon fiber/composite stock.
I was hunting Audad in West Texas, with a 6.5 PRC, last year and found that they are very resilient animals that sometimes takes a couple of well placed shots to slow them down. This pushed me to look for a rifle with a larger round like a 300PRC or 7mmPRC. I do like a regular ol’ 300 win mag. But, why not try the new stuff if it is readily available?
My gun guy showed me a few higher end rifles and I considered building a custom rifle. When I ran across the Seekins Havak, It looked like something that belonged in my gun case, so I grabbed it.
At first glance, it has a carbon fiber/composite stock. (with a cool design of course) The action is a Havak action that looks nice and comparable to other high end actions. It has an integrated picatinny rail and a spiral fluted barrel. The trigger is a TriggerTech Primary and the total weight of the 7mm PRC-Long Action is 6.0 pounds.
Lately I have been on a short & lite kick since I have been hunting in the mountains of West Texas. This barrel is 22″ long but even with an AB Raptor 8 suppressor, it is still manageable. Sticking to short & lite, I mounted one of the lightest 56mm scopes, a Leupold Mark 5HD- 5x25x56.
NOW TO THE RANGE– I’ll update with what I discover!!
